Britain's Most Easterly Yacht Club

RN&SYC – STARS
(Support Team Assisting Races at Sea)

35 members and friends attended our first meeting of the STARS group on the last Wednesday of October. Chris Merren showed us slides of the Newcome Sands and showed us how he surveys our racing area each Spring and puts the data together to make the chartlet that we all use for sailing. It was fascinating – I never thought it was easy, but we all sat enthralled as Chris described what he and his team do each year. There were plenty of questions afterwards. We continued the evening with a discussion about transits and landmarks and finished off with a sociable supper.
A good evening was had by all!

Our next meeting is on the last Wednesday in November, the 27th at 6pm, followed by supper.
This time we will look at the marks and buoys we use for racing, how to lay them in a particular position and how to set and retrieve them from the RIB and from Skylark. Everyone is welcome, even if laying marks is unlikely to be your thing! If you have friends who might feel they would like to help us, please let me know. The more we spread information and knowledge, the more people feel able to volunteer and support our races at sea.
We plan to finish in time for supper at 7pm. This time you can pre-order either Chicken Thai Green Curry with Rice or Fish and Chips to make life easier in the kitchen.
Please let the club know that you will be joining us along with your food choice.

We will be delighted to see you.
