Squib Fleet at Lowestoft

The Squib is a an ideal, small (under 20ft in length), racing yacht for the Lowestoft area. It is raced by a crew of two, often with a female crew, at both Oulton Broad (a big Squib fleet during the winter months) and at sea from RN&SYC during the summer.

The Squib is an RYA recognised National Class, and the boats are raced all around the UK and Ireland, with a full set of Open Meetings and National Championships organised by the Class Association.

Here in Lowestoft, we have a Fleet Captain (Richard Sullivan), a Fleet Secretary (Chris Jordan) and a Committee helping to organise the local Squib fleet racing at both RN&SYC and W&OBYC.

Communication across the fleet is done via email, WhatsApp and Facebook – Please contact the Fleet Secretary to be added into the communication flow.

Competitive used squibs can be found for between £4000 and £8000, complete with good sails and a trailer. We usually dry sail them at Lowestoft which means the boats are kept dry and safe in the boat park on trailers and they are craned in ready for racing – a simple process which takes about five minutes for each boat.

We sail at Lowestoft on Saturday afternoons from May to October and then get the best of both worlds by taking the boats to Oulton Broad for the winter.
