RIBS

From novice to expert, RN&SYC offers thrilling RIB handling and powerboat training for all ages and abilities.

Our RYA-certified courses, safety boat support, and club RIB fleet provide hands-on experience on the Broads and open sea. Whether you’re mastering high-speed navigation or supporting race events, we equip you with the skills and confidence to power ahead safely and enjoyably.

The RN&SYC has for many years hosted a growing fleet of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) within a community known as the ‘Ribsters’. Many store their RIBs on rented hardstanding at the club and launch using the club’s davit crane. Many members have made use of the on-site training school to improve their RIB handling skills and knowledge of navigation and meteorology, particularly for longer trips.

The Ribsters have hosted regular trips to Southwold Harbour, Scroby Sands as well as further flung places such as Harwich, Aldeburgh, Ipswich and Sea Palling. Members have also taken their RIBs by road to other locations, including to the South Coast. There is a diverse range of craft used by club members, ranging from 3.5 metre long single seater RIBs up to 10 metres length overall (LOA). Deep ‘V’ RIBs are an ideal craft for running from the club given their stability and ability to handle the short chop common on the North Sea and the ability to access the sea at all states of tide during the day and evenings.

As well as the waterborne activities, the Ribsters have organised film nights, barbecues, treasure hunts and fancy dress events. They have also combined forces with the motor cruising community on joint passages to interesting locations.

The club is also regularly visited by external service engineers and the town features many marine suppliers who can assist with fibreglass repairs, upholstery and marine electronics which reduce the hassle associated with keeping a RIB in a good state of repair. It is also possible to access the Norfolk & Suffolk Broads by RIB, either via an annual toll or a short visit toll with access via Mutford lock or Great Yarmouth Harbour.

VERSADOCK

The club has a number of drive on docks installed in the marina, all manufactured by Versadock.

These provide a ‘best of both worlds’ solution for RIB owners, since RIBs can be taken immediately to sea without needing to crane or slip them in but without the need to antifoul the hull with the attendant mess and value reduction. Members who rent this facility report that they can visit the club even for short periods and have short sea trips, perhaps combined with a meal with family, without having to set aside preparation and recovery time for the craft before and afterwards.

The Versadocks are in high demand and are rented on an annual basis to members, with a waiting list in place for future interest.
